Solar Maintenance and Repair

Solar Power systems are often thought to be maintenance free. However, as many solar power system owners may well know, taking steps to carry out occasional repairs and maintenance will ensure that the performance of your system can be maximized.

Neglecting to maintain your well designed solar power system can cause you to lose out financially over the years to come.

SolarWise Wagga has a team of qualified in house technicians available to carry out all types of maintenance and repairs on Solar power systems and solar equipment.

Preventative Maintenance

What Kind of Maintenance do Solar Panels Require?

Solar panels generally require minimal maintenance as they are designed and constructed to withstand exposure to the elements and to resist corrosion.

A few times a year, the panels should be inspected for any dirt or debris that may collect on them.

Always be safety conscious when inspecting panels, and use caution with ladders if your panels are difficult to see well from the ground. Don’t take risks!

Panel cleaning

Airborne dust, dirt, pollution, animal droppings, grime, tree sap and leaf debris, sea salt, moss and fungus can all contribute to a substantial reduction in solar energy generation.  Relying on rain alone to keep your solar panels clean is generally insufficient.

For a general cleaning, you can simply use a garden hose to wash the surface of the panels either early in the morning or in the evening.  It is important not to spray cold water onto hot panels as you could cause them to crack!

Full System Service

A common misconception with system maintenance services is that they only include cleaning, and while a proper clean does present its own benefits, the fact is a proper service includes much more.

Not many people are aware of the benefits of a full system service and why they should be conducted.

In addition to a full clean, the system needs to be checked to ensure all components safe and in proper operating condition.

These checks include:-

  • Visual inspection of the modules to check for defects such as cracks, chips or discolouration.
  • The inverter is functioning correctly by observing LED indicators, metering, and/or other displays on the inverter.
  • All switches, isolators, and circuit breakers are operating correctly.
  • Interconnections and cables/conduits are mechanically secure.
  • Structural integrity of frames and mounting.
  • AC and DC electrical systems
  • Clean the inverter in order to minimise the possibility of dust entering the equipment.
  • The system outputs and Inverter data will also be checked to ensure the system is working to its full capacity, and that system yields are in line with the specifications.
  • Tests and checks are carried out to confirm that your system is consistent with high safety standards.

A full written report is provided after completion of the service.

Additionally we can service/repair - or replace if necessary  - any problematic  components of your solar power system.

We recommend a full system service approximately every 2 - 3 years.

Fault finding and rectification

Here are some things that can go wrong with solar systems:

  • Unsafe wiring - either resulting from a poor installation or something that has occurred since
  • Damaged Panels
  • Solar inverter fault - not functioning or displaying warning indicators
  • Lightning strike damage
  • General poor performance or overall concern that the system isn’t performing as expected.

It may be that you have a system installed by a company that is no longer in business - in this case you can rely on our experience and expertise to help.

SolarWise Wagga offers solar power maintenance services to ensure that your system is always operating to its maximum potential.

Through a full check of all the system components including cabling we will provide peace of mind through the following areas:
  • Full safety check on all components ensuring no internal or external factors are present to ensure current and long term safety.
  • System longevity is  maximized  through frequent inspections by ensuring all panels are operating to their expected output and  efficiency.
  • Increased output following a full professional cleaning of all system panels, removing any build up that may be affecting system yields.
  • Updated  survey  of potential shading risks such as trees that have grow since installation and there effect on system  yields.

SolarWise Wagga also conducts cleaning  maintenance  for systems which can be beneficial on a yearly  basis to clean away any built up dirt and allow the system to perform at its maximum output.
