Commercial Solar and the Rebate Review

The Renewable Energy Target Review has been delivered to the government which upon reading the review may have large repercussions on businesses ability to effectively invest in solar and increase business cash flow.

A news story released by the Australian Solar Council summarizes the review well when they describe it as a dodgy, pre-determined report designed to abolish the Renewable Energy Target. If the Government accepts the recommendations of the report we could see the following changes in solar power.
  • The current system rebate to be closed immediately to all new applicants causing lost subsidies of up to $85000 for commercial applications or,

  • The current system rebate to be slashed by a third now and fully phased out by 2020. (with a rapid drop off of support between now and 2020)

  • The limit in system size would also drop from the current 100kW to a 10kW, making it more difficult for many businesses to fully utilize solar power to cut costs.

Now is the time to act to avoid any disappointment for commercial clients of whom stand to lose the most in subsidies which make up to 25% of the full system price. A grandfather clause was also recommendation which is good news for commercial clients. This would enable any business to still claim the current rebates for a certain period of time if they were to confirm an order before any changes are made.

This makes now a great opportunity to really consider solar power and allow Solar Wise Wagga to guide you through the process and help to ensure you receive the current subsidies.
